Welcome to my web page. It’s about who I am and what I do.
I’m an environmental activist. I lead the world-wide Shake & Fold campaign (www.shakeandfold.org), I’m a waste reduction specialist and a Master Recycler with over 2500 reported volunteer hours.
My hobbies include bicycling, singing, playing guitar, and ukulele. I also enjoy sewing and trivia. I listen to classic heavy metal music, and true crime podcasts. I love modern art – especially Andy Warhol, architecture, history, and politics.
My favorite viewing includes documentaries and Frontline. My favorite listening includes NPR, podcasts like The Daily, Frontline Dispatch, Grammar Girl (I was on one episode!) Don’t Ask Tig and SmartLess. Both S-Town and Cold focused on one story so aren’t ongoing podcasts. But both were very interesting and well-written stories.
I love animals; I’ve been a vegetarian since 1986. I prefer to ride my bike instead of driving. I avoid single-use plastic and I shop at thrift stores
I’m ADD-ish with OCD. That’s no fun.
My politics lean left; I’ve been involved in movements against Apartheid in South Africa, nuclear arms, war, poverty, racism, hunger, and capital punishment. I’ve worked for equal rights for sex and gender minorities. I’m a pro-choice feminist and a secular humanist.
I’ve been married to Dave Burnard since 1991 and we have one child; a daughter, Elizabeth.
